About Martin

Martin first started playing the violin in Florida at the age of ten as part of the orchestra program in his school. Not having a private tutor, and being immersed in an orchestra as a complete beginner, Martin taught himself to play using technique books which included various Suzuki books, thus mastering the first movement of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik in his first year...

Upon moving to Texas, Martin studied privately under Matthew Alexander for five years and continued to attend his High School Orchestra program, incorporating piano into his curriculum. During this time he explored various works by Bach and perfected La Folia by Corelli.

On moving to Spain at the age of seventeen, Martin studied under Ema Alexeeva before embarking on his degree in Centro Integrado Padre Antonio Soler in El Escorial (Madrid). At this time Martin renewed his interest in the piano, studying under Elisabeth Jaszauty and Ldia Galasov . He also began learning to play the guitar.

After graduation Martin studied for two more years under Ema Alexeeva learning to play, amongst other pieces, the first movement of Khachaturian's violin concerto, which gained him a position at the Superior Conservatory in Oviedo. It was at this time that Martin started offering private tuition in both music and English.

On returning to Madrid, Martin joined the Escuela de Musica Creativa and studied jazz and related styles such as blues, rock, funk, soul, and pop (on the violin).

It was in Madrid that Martin established himself as a music teacher, teaching piano and violin, and as an English teacher (attaining his Cambridge CELTA certification in 2016). He relocated to the Costa Blanca at the end of 2019.

How it works

At Jávea Violin we tailor our lessons to keep your enthusiasm levels high! The structure of our lessons depends on what you already know and what you would like to learn. Beginners start out with the Suzuki method as it’s widely considered to be the most efficient method for learning violin. As your technique improves and you progress to more complex pieces, you’re encouraged to explore the different possibilities the violin has to offer and to find pieces of music that you would like to learn to play. As soon as you have the basics down we can help you create your own music too!

Price per hour for violin lessons: € 20 euros*

Also Teach Piano?

At Jávea Violin we also offer piano lessons. Our method is similar to our method for violin: we work by balancing what you absolutely need to know with what you REALLY want to learn. Beginners start out by learning Kabalevski's Opus 39 and are encouraged to bring any songs they’ d like to learn to class.

With our method you will learn to read music and to play by ear, but you will also learn to write music and create your own songs.

Learning piano can be very rewarding; you might surprise yourself at how well you can play after only a few months!

Testimonials

My daughters started violin lessons with Martin when they were aged five and seven. He made the lessons really engaging and they quickly gained in confidence and ability. We’re delighted at how easy he made it for them. .

Javier P. Blanco

Madrid

I studied with Martin for a year to help me learn exam pieces; it was a great experience. As well as learning the pieces and improving my music theory, he taught me how to improve my posture to relieve the shoulder tension I had been suffering from due to playing: a great teacher!

Luis M.N. – Aravaca

Madrid

I studied with Martin for three years. I played the violin in a band and wanted to improve but I felt that the conservatory environment was too rigid. Martin was able to teach me a lot through songs that I like to play. He also helped me with violin arrangements for my band’s songs and with writing music.

Our son started lessons with Martin when he was seven. He had started violin lessons at school but needed private tuition. Martin was his teacher for four years, until he left Madrid. Our son misses his lessons, he really enjoyed them and he learnt a lot.

I started taking violin lessons with Martin when I was sixteen. I had studied violin in the conservatory but I wanted to learn to play other styles of music. With Martin I was able to improve a lot and play the songs that I like.
